Theodore Kuchar isn’t just a great conductor — he’s a mentor with a global vision.

Since assuming the leadership of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine in 1994, Theodore Kuchar’s work — both in Ukraine and across four continents — has had a significant impact on the development of concert life and the promotion of Ukrainian classical music worldwide. His numerous recordings for Naxos, Brilliant Classics, and Toccata Classics have played an important role in introducing Ukrainian musical heritage to international audiences. His contribution to Ukraine’s orchestral culture continues to this day: since 2017, he has collaborated regularly with the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Lviv National Philharmonic, and since August 2025 he has also served as Chief Conductor of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine. In addition, he has held music director positions in Australia, the Czech Republic, Poland, the United States, and Venezuela.

Beyond conducting, Kuchar remains a distinguished instrumentalist, pedagogue and administrator — he founded and directed the Australian Festival of Chamber Music and helped bring it to international prominence as one of the most distinguished musical festivals in the world. Since 2017, he has had a regular relationship with the Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine and as the orchestra's Principal Conductor during the past two years, have undertaken major tours of the USA and United Kingdom, performing in major musical centres including London, Birmingham (England), Cleveland, Miami and Carnegie Hall in New York City.

But beyond the accolades and titles, what sets Theodore Kuchar apart is his warmth, openness, and generosity as a teacher. He’s the kind of mentor you want to learn from — and trust.
